Gardaí arrest teenager over hit-and-run that killed Limerick nurse Áine O'Reilly

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED teenager today in connection with an investigation into a hit-and-run in which a nurse was killed in Co Limerick last month.

The 19-year-old was arrested by Gardaí in the Castleconnell area of Limerick this morning.

He is being questioned by Gardaí investigating a hit-and-run collision on Friday, 13 February in which 33-year-old Áine O’Reilly died.

O’Reilly, a qualified nurse from Pallasgreen, had been driving to work at the out of hours GP service Shannondoc when her car was struck by another car. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene.

A man who was driving a third car that was caught up in the collision was treated for minor injuries.

Today a Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí continue to investigate a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N24 near Grange West, Boher, Co. Limerick on Friday 13th February 2026.”

“Today, Thursday 19th March 2026, Gardaí arrested an adult male, aged in his late teens, in connection with this investigation.”

“He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Limerick Division.”

“Investigations are ongoing.”
