Gardaí probe possible dissident link to Dublin murder

A father-of-four was killed when a group of gunmen fired through the widows of his home in Clondalkin, Dublin, at 4am this morning.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a possible dissident republican link to the murder of a 53-year-old man in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

Liam Kenny was suffered fatal gunshot wounds when a group of men tried to barge into his home on Shancastle Avenue, near Palmerstown, at around 4am this morning. When they could not break into the house, the men fired through the window, hitting father-of-four Kenny who was standing in the hallway.

Other members of his family were in the house at the time but none of them were injured in the attack.

Kenny was later pronounced dead at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

RTÉ reports that Kenny had been a member of Republican Sinn Féin but had left last July, according to the group. Following that, Kenny was thought to have joined a splinter group in Limerick.

Meanwhile, gardaí have found what they believe to be the getaway car used by the men – a stolen 10 D registered Nissan Qashqai.
