GARDAÍ WHO PULLED over a driver in a stolen car were able to recover two other vehicles and other stolen property in Limerick last night.
The driver of the stolen 142-reg BMW was targeted by gardaí from Roxboro Road, Henry Street and Newcastle West districts as part of Operation Thor. The gardaí were targeting what they believe to be an organised criminal gang responsible for a number of burglaries in Limerick city and county in recent weeks.
Gardaí from Roxboro Road arrested a 27-year-old man last night as he was driving the white BMW, one of two vehicles stolen overnight in the Castletroy area of the city.
The other vehicle (a 141-reg Volkswagen) was recovered in a follow-up search. As part of this investigation, gardaí also recovered a 142-reg Nissan Quashqai, stolen in a separate burglary in the south side of the city and two laptops.
In a follow-up planned operation this morning, four men aged between 17 and 20 were also arrested.
All five males are currently detained at various stations in Limerick city and county pursuant to Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.
The investigation is ongoing.
