FRIENDS OF GÉRARD Depardieu have hit back at reports that the actor relieved himself openly in a plane cabin – insisting that he apologised after accidentally spilling some urine onto the floor.
The Asterix and Obelix star sparked controversy yesterday after claims that he openly peed on the carpet in the cabin of the CityJet flight from Paris to Dublin. A fellow passenger was quoted as saying the actor shouted “Je veux pisser, je veux pisser”, but was told by cabin staff to stay in his seat as the plane was about to take off. She said he then unzipped his trousers and relieved himself on the floor.
However, friends of the actor have contested this account, telling AFP that Depardieu’s two travel companions offered him a bottle as he had an “irrepressible need” to urinate. He used it “after making sure he wasn’t seen”, but spilt a small amount of urine on the floor.
Depardieu then said he was sorry to cabin staff and offered to clear it up himself, the friends continued, adding that the air hostess had an “inflexible attitude”.
A spokesperson for CityJet yesterday would only confirm that Depardieu “in effect, urinated in the plane”. But the airline later tweeted “As you may have seen on the news, we are busy mopping the floor of one of our planes this morning…”, adding in a second tweet: “We’d also like to remind all passengers that our planes are fully equipped with toilet facilities.”
The Irish Independent reports that Depardieu was due in Ireland to film the new Asterix and Obelix movie, adding that he was not visible on the set yesterday.
