IT HAS BEEN confirmed that Sinn Féin President and newly-elected TD Gerry Adams will lead the party in the next Dáil.
Sinn Féin have won a record 14 seats in the 31st Dáil which will sit for the first time next week.
Adams was elected to represent the constituency of Louth after topping the poll at the weekend.
Following the first meeting of the new parliamentary party at Leinster House it was confirmed that Adams, a former MP in the UK parliament and MLA in Northern Ireland, would lead the party in Dáil Eireann.
A spokesperson for Sinn Féin was unable to confirm whether or not Adams will be put forward as a nominee for Taoiseach.
