Three men due in court over Meath pub shooting

A second man, who was being held in connection with the shooting, was released this afternoon.

THREE MEN ARE due in court this evening to be charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man outside a pub  in Gormanston, Co Meath on Wednesday.

Peter Butterly, 35, was shot dead outside The Huntsman Inn pub at Gormanston at around 2pm. It is believed the man drove into the car park, followed a few minuets later by a second car. Butterly was then confronted by the occupants of the second car as he walked across the car park and was shot a number of times.

The assailants fled the scene in a car which turned left as it exited the car park. However the car was intercepted a short time later and four males were arrested by gardaí.

Yesterday one man in his 30s was released and gardaí said a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. This afternoon a second man was released from custody with a file due to be sent to the DPP.

The remaining three men will be charged at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court at 7.30 pm.
