CCTV FOOTAGE HAS captured the moment a truck shed part of its load of hay bales, causing damage to a street in Louth.
The falling hay bales knocked over an ESB pole and damaged several shop fronts on Bridge Street in Ardee in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The driver of the truck did not stop at the scene.
No one was injured during the incident which happened outside Hamills of Number 19 pub at 6.45am.
Owner of the pub Mark Conlon told TheJournal.ie:
The shop next door’s window were smashed. Luckily my windows weren’t, I don’t know how though they’re very old.
He said the only problem the following day was the traffic issues as a stop and go system was put in place as s the road was cleaned and the electrical wires were repaired.
According to Conlon power only returned to the pub last night around 9.00pm as repairs were ongoing throughout the day.
Conlon said a tractor pulled the majority of the hay away yesterday morning and then the council swept away the remaining hay.
