Highest number of women TDs EVER if female candidates win two by-elections

If the two female candidates tipped for the top are successful there will be 27 female TDs.

THERE ARE TWO by-election counts taking place – one in Dublin West and one in Longford Westmeath.

The official results of the second count in Dublin West show that there are just eight votes between Sinn Féin’s Paul Donnelly and the Socialist Party’s Ruth Coppinger.

The first count showed Ruth Coppinger at 5,977 votes – 21 per cent.

Over in Longford Westmeath, the final tally showed Fine Gael’s Gabrielle McFadden had 25 per cent of the vote.

Meanwhile Fine Gael tweeted:

If Coppinger and McFadden win a seat it will be a big win for women in politics, meaning there will be more female TDs than ever before.

Yay!
