More than 20 homes evacuated in Derry this morning after two 'suspect devices' found
Cordons remain in place while a public safety operation continues.
POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are currently dealing with a security alert in Derry city after two suspect devices were discovered in a residential area.
PSNI officers received a report of the devices shortly after 12.30am this morning in the Glenabbey Close and Beraghvale area of Derry.
Around two dozen homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Cordons remain in place while a public safety operation continues.
Chief Inspector Graeme Craig said officers understood the “level of disruption” caused to residents, including families forced to leave their homes during the night, as well as the impact on local retailers.
He added that while cordons have been reduced, there is still no access to Glenabbey Close.
Galliagh Community Centre has been opened as a respite centre for those affected.
PSNI Chief Inspector Craig thanked residents for their patience and assured the public that police are working to resolve the incident “as quickly as we can”.
