THE HSE IS continuing to investigate six deaths at a private nursing home in Donegal after an outbreak of influenza.
Another patient at the Nazareth nursing home in Buncrana died earlier today but the HSE has said the death was not related to the current outbreak.
A public health team including surveillance scientists, doctors and nurses continue to closely manage and monitor the situation, the HSE said this evening. Eleven people were suffering with flu symptoms at the nursing home as of Wednesday.
The HSE has asked people visiting older residents of nursing homes to ensure their vaccinations for influenza are up to date.
The Irish Patients Association has called for a national vaccination register to be established to collate vital information that could help during outbreaks of infectious diseases.
