Careful now: Warnings of black ice on roads across the country

Temperatures dropped to around -3 Celsius in some parts of the country last night.

WE DID WARN you it would be cold this morning but AA Roadwatch is now urging motorists to take care on the roads this morning with reports of black ice across the country.

Met Éireann said the day will start “cold and frosty” across most areas with ice on some untreated surfaces. In Kilkenny, Cork and Monaghan, AA Roadwatch is advising extra care in a number of places because of icy conditions.

In Louth there are reports of “severe black ice” on all routes around Ardee with gardaí dealing with a number of incidents. There is widespread black ice around Navan town and through parts of the county and AA is also advising extra care in Ennis, Co Clare.

The frost should clear later today as rain moves in but until then, take care out there folks.
