Two dead and 20 injured in train collision in Germany

The incident happened earlier today near Ibbenburen in northwest Germany.

TWO PEOPLE WERE killed and 20 others injured today when a passenger train collided with a tractor trailer carrying manure in northwest Germany, police said.

The accident happened in the late morning, near Ibbenburen, about 150 kilometres west of Hanover, when the train, which was coming from the northwest city of Osnabruck, struck the trailer at a railway crossing.

Of the 20 injured, three were in critical condition, said a local police spokesperson without giving further details on the injured or the cause of the accident.

After the collision, the train continued for 150 to 200 metres before stopping, according to the same source.
