UK police hunt Irish rugby fans after assault on train passenger
Officers believe the men attended the England v Ireland rugby match at Twickenham before the attack.
BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE are appealing for help identifying two men who attacked a train passenger after he took issue with one of them vomiting on the carriage floor.
The 58-year-old man was attacked by the two men on 27 February as the train travelled between Sanderstead and Riddlesdown in London.
Officers believe the men responsible boarded the train at Clapham Junction after attending the England v Ireland rugby match at Twickenham. In images released by authorities, one of the men can clearly be seen sporting an Ireland rugby jersey.
The victim was punched and pushed to the floor by the men who “only ceased their assault when other passengers intervened”.
“The victim sustained cuts and bruises to his face and went to hospital for assessment. Fortunately his injuries were not serious,” commented detective sergeant Sarah Garden.
