Dublin's popular Izakaya restaurant to reopen after blaze
There was an electrical fire in the basement of the building earlier this month, causing significant damage.
POPULAR JAPANESE RESTAURANT Izakaya is to reopen “new and improved” in Dublin next week after an electrical fire shut it down for weeks.
There was significant damage to the bar downstairs and some smoke damage to the restaurant but manager Seana O’Brien told TheJournal.ie that the restaurant on the ground floor will open next Wednesday.
“It’ll be another week or so until we get downstairs good enough to reopen but the restaurant will be ready,” she said. “We’re opening with a modified menu and a few new cocktails so we’re keeping all the classics but giving something new as well.”
O’Brien said all staff at the restaurant were given shifts in sister restaurants over the last two weeks and will return when it reopens.
“It was fortunate and unfortunate at the same time because if it was close to Christmas it could have crippled us business-wise,” she commented. “But now we’ll have a brand new bar and a fresh start in time for Christmas and we already have all the Christmas bookings coming in.”
