Jason McGovern death: investigation continues as PSNI seek interview

The 19-year-old was found dead at his Monaghan home yesterday morning.

THE PSNI ARE still looking to speak to a man in relation to the death of student Jason McGovern.

The 19-year-old was found dead at his house in Tydavnet, county Monaghan yesterday morning. It is understood that he was assaulted twice while on a night out in Omagh, across the border.

Detectives in Northern Ireland want to speak to a man they have described as stocky with ginger or blond-coloured hair. They have urged him to contact them to assist with their enquiries.

According to RTÉ, the victim was punched while at a licensed premises on John Street at about midnight. Two hours later, he was attacked again outside a nightclub on the Kevlin Road.

He then made his way home but his body was found at 11am Monday. A post mortem is being carried out at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan today.

Gardaí are also investigating the death.

SDLP Omagh councillor Josephine Deehan said the town was “deeply ashamed” about the tragedy.
