High Court judge Mr Justice Kevin Feeney dies suddenly aged 61

He passed away while on holiday in Ballycotton, Co Cork.

MR JUSTICE KEVIN Feeney died suddenly while on holiday in Ballycotton, Co Cork yesterday.

The Attorney General Máire Whelan said his “sudden” and “unexpected” death will “leave a great void in the Irish legal community”.

He was appointed to the High Court in March 2006.

Mr Justice Feeney oversaw a number of Criminal Assets Bureau cases, most notably part of the John Gilligan case in 2010.

Judge Feeney consistently volunteered and served on many bodies and committees throughout his career, he served as a member of the board of the Courts Service, the Chair of the service’s building committee and also chaired the referendum commission last year.

A former student of Gonzaga College, and a graduate of University College Dublin and the King’s Inns and was called to the Bar in 1973. He was a junior counsel from 1973 to 1991 and a senior counsel from 1991 to 2006 until he was appointed to the High Court.
