A RETIRED MARRIED couple from Dun Laoighaire have collected their share of Wednesday night’s Lotto jackpot, a cheque for €2,905,586.
The husband said he was upstairs listening to music when his wife hollered up the stairs ‘I think we’ve won the Lotto’.
“I went downstairs, thought she was messin’ and we both looked at the numbers on Aertel. Couldn’t believe our eyes.
“When our son, who lives with us, came home from work, we got him to check again. But there they were. Still can’t believe it.”
The couple, who recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary, have seven children (three boys and four girls) and ten grand-children.
They wish to remain anonymous and were accompanied by their family to collect their big prize. The wife said:
I’m planning the mother and father of a spending spree in Marks & Spencer – I’m a Marks & Spencers addict.
The husband added, “I’m busily planning a cruise, and a trip to Rome. And definitely a trip to San Giovanni in Southern Italy, to visit the final resting place of Saint Padre Pio…Oh, and did I mention we’re changing the car as well.”
Before leaving the National Lottery offices, he said:
We’ll have a celebratory dinner at the weekend, and there’s a big birthday coming up as well. So we’re just beginning to enjoy living the dream.
The wife bought the €4 Quickpick ticket in The Kiosk outlet in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre on Monday.
The other half of the jackpot has not yet been collected. It was won by an online player.
