WHAT’S THE STORY?
1. DRIVING somewhere this lunchtime? A Garda crackdown – continuing today – already caught over 300 drivers using their phones while behind the wheel. Put it down, folks – even if there isn’t a Garda around.
2. A MAN has been arrested for that suspected hit-and-run on Wednesday on the Gort Road in Galway, when 68-year-old John White of Loughrea was killed while out cycling.
3. GOOD news for the people who worked in the Irish Banking Resolution Corporation who were not on the big bucks. The IBRC was formed by a merger of the Irish Nationwide Building Society and the Anglo Irish Bank. A row over redundancy payments has ended with a payoff deal worth €18,000 to each employee concerned.
4. IF you are an Ulster Bank customer looking forward to the weekend, you’ll be delighted to know that their ATM glitch is sorted. More here.
5. THERE’S still a month to the local and Euro elections so could all campaigners please calm down? We’re covered poster shenanigans this past week, but this row between two candidates over poster-snatching is too much.
6. CAR owners will like this – Nissan is testing a paint that repels mud, rain and dirt from their vehicles. No more car washes?
7. WE love these portraits by Leon Farrell of Photocall Ireland of ‘Vikings’ on the rampage at the Battle of Clontarf 1,000-year commemoration last weekend:
