Man (50s) dies after being struck by a car in Co Offaly last night

The incident happened on the N62 at Killeenboy, Cloghan, Co. Offaly.

A MAN IN his 50s has died after being struck by a car in Co Offaly last night.

The incident happened shortly after 11pm on the N62 at Killeenboy, Cloghan, Co. Offaly.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was brought to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

No other injuries were reported.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently carrying out a technical examination of the scene and the road remains closed.

Local diversions are in place and motorists, particularly drivers of heavy goods vehicles, are asked to travel via Tullamore, Co Offaly.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and any road users who may have camera or dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 10pm to 11.30pm are asked to make this footage available.

So far this year, 68 people have died on Irish roads, including five women over the past week.

Last Saturday, two pedestrians, a cyclist and a motorist were killed in separate incidents and on Monday, a woman in her 80s was killed after being struck by a bus in Co Louth.
