GARDAÍ IN ROSCOMMON are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shootings of two people in a town in the county.

A 44-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were killed in the incidents, which occurred between some time between 9:30pm and 12 midnight.

The man was found dead in a silver Volkswagen Passat car at around midnight, in the town of Cloonfad, close to the border with Mayo. Shortly after 1:30am, the woman was found dead – in a separate silver Passat – at Springvale, a short distance away.

Both scenes have been preserved, and Gardaí have established an incident room at Castlerea station.

It is understood that the deaths are being treated as a murder-suicide.
