A MAN IS seriously injured after an assault in Co Laois in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident happened on Portarlington’s Main Street at around 1.15am.
A man aged in his 60s was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
Another man, aged in his 40s, was arrested by gardaí and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a garda station in Co Laois.
Gardaí are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on (057) 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
Anyone who may have video footage (including dash-cam) of Main Street, Portarlington, Co Laois between 12.45am and 1.30am on Sunday is also asked to make this available to gardaí.
Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
