GARDAÍ DISCOVERED THE body of a man in his 20s during a planned search of an area of bog in county Kerry this morning.

The remains of the young man were found at Ballylongford, a village near Listowel. The site has been preserved and a number of other locations are also being examined.

The Garda Technical Bureau and Dr Margaret Bolster from the State Pathologist’s Office are scheduled to carry out examinations at the scenes tomorrow.

Gardaí investigating the circumstances of the death have arrested two men. This afternoon, a man in his late 20s was arrested and detained at Listowel Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

This evening, Gardaí said they had made a second arrest. A 19-year-old man is being held at Tralee Garda Station in connection with the death.

It is understood that today’s search was carried out as part of investigation into the whereabouts of a Brazilian man who has been missing from Gort in Galway for a number of weeks.
