'Shock and sadness': Man arrested on suspicion of murder following death in Co Down

PSNI officers attended to an incident in Portavogie this morning and a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A MAN HAS been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of 28-year-old Jordan Webb in Co Down this morning.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team launched a murder investigation following Webb’s death in Portavogie, a coastal village on the Ards Peninsula.

Officers attended a house in the New Harbour Road area of the village this morning.

PSNI Detective Inspector Hollie McCartan said officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, responded to a report received just after 7.45am.

Webb was pronounced dead at the scene.

McCartan said her “thoughts are with Webb’s family and loved ones, who are left trying to come to terms with their unimaginable loss”.

She added that a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

“We’re deeply aware this news will bring both shock and sadness to the close-knit community of Portavogie,” said McCartan.

“Local people will see police officers in and around the area, with cordons still in place.”

McCartan said she is “particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the New Harbour Road area of Portavogie between midday on Sunday, 2 November and 8am today, who witnessed or heard anything untoward, or may have captured dash cam footage.
