Man being questioned over Mother's Day murder of woman

A man, believed to be the woman’s son, is being held in connection with the attack which also resulted in his brother being injured.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are continuing to question a man in connection with the death of a woman in Antrim yesterday.

A 33-year-old man, believed to be the woman’s son, is being held in connection with the murder of his mother, 52, and the attempted murder of his brother, 31, in the Rossburn Manor area of Connor outside Ballymena, according to UTV News.

The incident is thought to have involved a knife with the woman attacked whilst she celebrated Mother’s Day.

Her 31-year-old son was injured whilst trying to protect her, his wounds are said to be serious but not life threatening, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

Police were called to the home at around 12.30pm yesterday and forensics officers later examined the scene.

Political leaders in the North have condemned the attack with Democratic Unionist representative Mervyn Storey saying: “It is a terrible tragedy for any person to be murdered.

“But for a mother to be murdered on Mother’s Day is truly awful,” he added, according to the Antrim Times.
