Man charged over alleged Nurofen Plus sabotage

Several packs of the painkiller were found to contain anti-psychotic and anti-epilepsy drugs.

ONE MAN HAS been charged in relation to the alleged sabotage of packs of Nurofen Plus painkillers with anti-psychotic medication.

Alerts were issued in the UK over the painkillers after pharmacies in London discovered some of their Nurofen Plus packets contained blister packets of Seroquel XL. One pack in Northern Ireland was found to contain rogue Neurotonin capsules.

Seroquel is used to treat conditions including mania and schizophrenia, while Neurotonin is an anti-epilepsy drug.

Here, the Irish Medicines Board issued a precautionary recall of the painkillers although none had been discovered in Irish supplies. The IMB said there would be no serious consequences as a result of the replaced tablets.

The BBC reports that 30-year-old Christopher McGuire from south London has been charged with contaminating goods and administering a noxious substance in connection with the tampered Nurofen Plus packs. He is due in court tomorrow.
