A MAN HAS died following a fall from a bonfire in Belfast during an Eleventh Night event.

According to BBC News reports the incident happened on Friday night when the man fell from the structure in the Braniel area of the city. He died in hospital today.

A statement released by three local loyalist groups Braniel Bonfire Committee, Braniel Loyal Flute Band and the Braniel Community Group announced the death.

Released on social media the statement said the man fell in a “tragic accident”.

“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with [the man's] family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him at this incredibly difficult time. As a community, we are heartbroken by this tragic loss and ask that everyone keeps his loved ones in their prayers in the days and weeks ahead.

“Following discussions with [the man's] family, they have expressed their wish for the bonfire to proceed as planned. After careful consideration, we have decided to honour their request,” it said.

The bonfire will go ahead at 9pm, Saturday night, and they will hold a minute’s silence for the man who was in his 40s.

“We would ask all those attending to show dignity, compassion and respect for [his] family and friends throughout the evening,” the statement added.

A statement has been requested from the PSNI.

There was widespread condemnation after a bonfire in Moygashel, Co Tyrone, featured a replica of a mosque on top.

Meanwhile, there was an annual Orange Order parade in Rossnowlagh in Co Donegal today.

Lodges from across Donegal, Cavan, Leitrim and Monaghan took part in the parade.

In Royal Hillsborough in Co Down, a display of Lambeg drumming took place ahead of the village hosting one of the main Twelfth parades on Monday.
