THE 32-YEAR-OLD man who had been charged with the murder of GAA player James Hughes has been found dead in Cloverhill Courthouse in west Dublin.
Shane Rodgers, who was being held in custody, was found dead in a holding cell at the courthouse. His name could not be released earlier today until his family had been notified. Rodgers had been charged with the murder of James Hughes in Dundalk, Co Louth. Hughes, 35, from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, had been shot dead as he sat as a passenger in a taxi in the early hours of last Sunday morning.
A taxi driver and a young woman who were also in the car were also injured in the shooting.
The Irish Prison Service and the gardaí will conduct separate investigations into the case.
Foul play is not suspected in Rodgers’ death.
