GARDAÍ CONTINUE TO question a man being held in connection with the death of an elderly woman in Waterford yesterday which is now being treated as murder.
Following a post mortem on the body of Vera Vollrath, 82, Gardaí say that they are now treating the case as a murder investigation.
Vollrath was found dead in her room by staff Killure Bridge Nursing Home, just outside Waterford City, yesterday morning. She had been a resident at the home.
Gardaí said the results of the post mortem would not be released but that they continue to hold a 46-year-old man who was arrested at Dublin Airport yesterday afternoon and brought to Waterford Garda Station.
The man did not work at the nursing home but RTÉ reports that he knew Vollrath.
It also reports that Gardaí are awaiting direction from the Director of Public Prosections before deciding on whether a court appearance will happen today or tomorrow.
