Until the Gardai tackle those who drive at inappropriate speed, ie tailgating, too fast for road conditions and weather there will be a very small reduction in road deaths. How can a motorist who drives at 85 kmh on a 80kmh dual carriage way with no traffic around get penalty points and a fine yet another motorist tailgating at the speed limit in heavy traffic get away with it. Any motorist who causes a crash should be given, a ban along with points and a fine. May be severe but it will reduce road deaths.

I totally agree. I also think that some of our roads are given ridiculous speed limits. All the country roads around me are 80km per hr but you can’t see 10metres in front of you half the time! Crazy!
