A THIRTY-YEAR-OLD man received head injuries during a serious assault in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí are investigating the incident, which took place in the Townparks area of Carrick-on-Shannon at 3.30am this morning.
The victim was found with serious injuries to his head and was brought to Sligo General Hospital by ambulance.
He is said to be in a critical condition.
Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to the assault, or anyone who may have been in the Townparks area between midnight and 3.30am to contact Carrick-on-Shannon garda station on 071 9620021, or ring the Garda Confidential telephone line on 1800 666 111 or alternatively contact any garda station.
The area has been sealed off for a technical examination.
