Man to appear in court over hatchet-wielding incident

The 44-year-old has been charged with having an offensive weapon in a public place.

A MAN WHO chased a number of children down a street while wielding a hatchet is to appear before a Derry court tomorrow.

Police in Northern Ireland have charged the 44-year-old with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The PSNI said that a taser was deployed as they arrested the man at Clonmeen Drive on Friday night.

A second man, aged 42, was arrested in relation to the incident but was later released on police bail.
