Maths Week: Your Friday puzzle

Figure it out.

IT’S MATHS WEEK, and as is our annual tradition here, we’re setting you a puzzle a day with all answers published on the site on Sunday.

Get puzzling!

TODAY’S Q:

As a Friday treat, Mr Moneybags takes a bag full of money to let his workers have a lucky dip. He explains that there is a mix of €5, €10 and €20 notes in the bag and everyone could pull one note out.

You are that difficult worker who’s always asking questions and you ask him about the chances of winning each denomination.

You would have to pull out 31 notes to be sure of winning a €20 note. You would have to pull out 26 notes to be sure of winning a €10 note and if you pulled out 16 notes you would be sure to get a €5 note.

After a pause he declares. “I have changed my mind. I will give the entire bag of money to smartypants here if they can tell me how much is in it altogether. “

Can you figure out how much money is in the bag?

All answers will be published on TheJournal.ie on Sunday
