Mayo family to take civil case after daughter's road death is ruled accidental

The family of Aisling Gallagher, who died seven years ago, maintained that the incomplete road surface contributed to their daughter’s death.

THE FAMILY OF a young woman who who died in a road crash in Mayo seven years ago has said that they’re disappointed that her death has been ruled accidental.

Aisling Gallagher, who was 22 when she died, died when her van collided with a truck near Mulranny. Her parents had argued that the condition of the road played a part in her death, as a final layer still had to be applied to the recently resurfaced road, reports RTE.

It had previously been reported in the Mayo Advertiser that that it was believed that the same material had been used on the road on Mayo, as was used at the site of the Kentstown Bus Crash. Aisling’s parents travelled to Brussels in 2009 in an effort to address the issue of road surfacing procedures.

Aisling’s death was ruled accidental today at an inquest. Her family will pursue a civil case.
