Two due in court over attempted armed robbery at Dublin post office

The men were intercepted by gardaí in Westmeath after they escaped empty-handed from the post office in Clonsilla.

TWO MEN ARE due in court tomorrow after an attempted armed robbery in the west Dublin suburb of Clonsilla.

The incident happened at around 10.20am today when two men armed with a handgun and a hammer entered a post office on the Clonsilla Road and threatened staff.

The two left the scene empty-handed shortly afterwards and escaped on a motorcycle.

Some 40 minutes later, they were intercepted by gardaí from the Traffic Corps and the Regional Support Unit near Kilbeggan in Westmeath and the two were arrested.

The men, both of whom are in their 20s, were questioned at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Gardaí said tonight that the men are expected to appear before Blanchardstown District Court on Tuesday morning charged in connection with the incident.
