POLICE ARE SEARCHING for two males dressed in pink tutus who assaulted two men in a homophobic attack.

The incident took place in Surbiton, England in the early hours of Saturday morning, 1 November. Police said the victims had homophobic abuse shouted at them and walked away from the perpetrator – but they were then followed, with one of them punched by a man wearing a pink tutu.

One of the victims was stamped on and kicked during the assault.

Police said that the attack is being treated as a homophobic hate crime.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called at around 1.20am to reports of males fighting outside the KFC restaurant in the Brighton Road of Surbiton. They arrived and  found a 21-year-old man (victim 1) suffering a head injury. This man was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

A second man with the victim, aged 18 (victim2), also suffered minor facial injuries in the attack.

‘Suspect1′ has been described as:

• A white man
• Aged in his late twenties
• Fair hair that was shaven
• A muscular build
• Short in height
• Wearing a pink tutu.

‘Suspect2′ has been described as:

• A white man
• Also aged in his late twenties
• Brown short hair
• Also wearing a pink tutu.

Homophobic hate crime

According to the Met Police:

At this early stage it is understood both victims were walking along Victoria Road and as they passed a group of two men and three women outside the YMCA they were subjected to homophobic abuse from one of the two men.The two victims walked away but when they reached the zebra crossing nearby the two men [suspects 1 and 2] approached them and ‘victim 2′ was punched.’Victim1′ intervened to protect ‘Victim2′ and the suspects then assaulted him.’Victim1′ ended up on the floor where the suspects kicked and stamped on him.

During the assault, passers-by intervened, leading to the suspects running off along Victoria Road.

Officers searched the area but didn’t find anyone meeting the suspects’ descriptions.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and information following the attack.

Trainee Detective Constable Ann-Marie Hodgkiss described the case as a “violent and unprovoked hate crime”.
