The 2011 New Year's resolutions of one couple that washed up in Dublin

Did Karl and Isobel ever manage to work harder or be nicer to strangers? Will we ever know?

THE WILD WEATHER that has affected Ireland in the last week has led to seas swelling and some spot flooding.

But in Clontarf, something other than seaweed was washed ashore.

Mark McGowan and his wife Clare were enjoying a stroll along the waterfront when they came across this message in a bottle among rubbish that had washed up over the weekend.

Mark says:

“My wife Clare spotted the bottle amongst the hundreds that had been washed up on the promenade on Friday, so we decided to take a picture of it where we found it and then of the letter too.”

The bottle contained a letter, written by two people who outlined their plans for 2011.

Are you one of Karl or Isobel? Did you manage to be nicer to strangers? Or work harder?

Karl & Isobel are friends of mine! They recently got engaged to one another over the Christmas break and, judging by their Facebook accounts this afternoon, are completely astounded that their message in a bottle has gone viral three years later!

Oh yeah I’m sure they are completely surprised it’s gone ‘viral’, definitely not their sole intention when they put a New Years resolution list with names on it in a bottle and cast it adrift a few years ago.

Drove passed the beach in Clontarf yesterday, couldn’t believe the amount of shite that had been washed up, forget about a message in a bottle, you could find the missing link lying on the shore………

It’s something of a romantic thing but really – aren’t we dumping enough sh!te into the sea without encouraging to write their thoughts on a bit of paper, put it in a bottle and then toss it in the water too?

Guess it’s just me but it’s crossed my mind that it seems very coincidental that it just happens to have washed up at this particular time of year!

Thousands of bottles have been washed up in the last few days by the high tides and winds. So not a coincidence; if ever it was going to be washed up, now was the time. What’s Remarkable is that it was spotted amongst the rest of them.
