1. #TAX INVERSION: US President Barack Obama has blasted Ireland’s tax regime. He said that US companies setting up here were using “unpatriotic tax loopholes” and accused them of renouncing their citizenship

2. #WEST BANK: A Palestinian man was killed and 150 others wounded last night during a massive protest in the West Bank against Israel’s military offensive in Gaza

3. #LAOIS: Two people have died in a collision between a motorbike and van in Laois

4. #CORK: A post mortem is due to be carried out on the body of a newborn found yesterday in Cork city.

5. #BONUSES: The Central Bank has warned that financial institutions are ‘failing’ to identify the risk of awarding bonuses for higher sales. This means customers could be sold inappropriate products.

6. #STRIKE: Siptu workers at Irish Rail will hold a one-day strike next month, the Irish Independent reports. The industrial action will take place on August 25, a day after pay cuts are introduced.

7. #MALI: The wreckage of a missing Air Algerie flight has been found, but the fate of the 116 people onboard is still unknown.

8. #BOOZERS: The Chairman of JD Wetherspoon has said that Irish pubs need to lower their prices to survive. Tim Martin told DailyEdge.ie that he doesn’t think his chain’s arrival is the death knell for the traditional Irish pub. 

9. #SOMETHING FISHY: Preliminary results suggest that some shops and restaurants could still be mislabelling fish. The scale of the issue is not yet known.
