PHARMACEUTICAL FIRM NOVARTIS is to create 100 jobs in Dublin as it establishes a new business services centre at its Clonskeagh offices.

The company – said to be the second largest pharma corporation in the world – already employs about 1,200 people in Ireland.

The new jobs will be in marketing, sales and medical communications.

IDA Ireland welcomed the development today, issuing a statement to hail the fact that nine of the top 10 global pharma companies have operations across the country.

It has been a mixed day for news on the jobs front with two further announcements from Avon and HP.

Avon Cosmetics said it is pulling out of Ireland, cutting 400 jobs. Meanwhile, Enda Kenny said 150 construction jobs will be provided at the Hewlett Packard campus in Galway.
