Obama publishes children's book

US Presdient already has a couple of bestsellers behind him.

US PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S latest book is due to hit the shelves in mid-November.

Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters introduces young readers to 13 ‘inspirational’ Americans, including the first US President George Washington and artist Georgia O’Keeffe.

The book can already be pre-ordered online.

AP reports that Obama joins a number of previous presidential authors. Jimmy Carter published a book in 1995 called The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleejer, and Theodore Roosevelt released Hero Tales from American History in 1895. However, neither was in office when their book was released.

The president will donate author proceeds from the illustrated book, intended for children aged three and upwards, to a scholarship fund for the children of injured or deceased US soldiers. The publishers claim Obama completed the book before he took office in the White House.

Obama’s first book, Dreams from My Father, was published in 1995.

His second book, called The Audacity of Hope, became the number one bestselling book on the New York Times and Amazon after being endorsed by Oprah Winfrey.

The Audacity of Hope and the new children’s book are part of a $1.9m three-book deal agreed with publisher Random House in 2004.
