Petrol bombs were thrown at police in East Belfast last night

A PSNI Inspector says a small minority “showed a complete disregard for their community.”

PETROL BOMBS WERE thrown at police last night at the Beersbridge Road in East Belfast.

At around 10.25 pm, PSNI officers responded to reports of bins being set alight by youths at the junction of Castlereagh Street and Templemore Avenue.

At that time, two petrol bombs were thrown at officers.

Fireworks were also thrown in the Castlereagh Street area, and a 17-year-old youth was arrested and charged with attempted criminal damage.

Reacting to the petrol bomb attack, PSNI Inspector King said:

Police officers are committed to keeping people safe and a small minority of individuals showed a complete disregard for their area and the community who live there, by attacking police last night.
Thankfully no one was injured and despite this incident, police will continue to provide the dedicated service to the local community.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Musgrave PSNI station on 101, or to anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
