A PIPE BOMB exploded outside a house in North Down in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the scene after a woman heard a loud bang outside her home.

It happened at Church Green in Holywood at around 12:35am.

British Army Bomb experts recovered the pipe bomb device and took it away for further forensic examinations.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them on the new non-emergency number 101.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile yesterday evening two suspected pipe bombs were discovered in Strabane, Tyrone.

The search was carried out by detectives from PSNI Serious Crime Branch investigating dissident republican activity.
