Taser

Police apologise for hitting teenage girl with Taser

Officers missed their mark and struck teen bystander.

POLICE IN THE UK have apologised to a 14-year-old girl and her family after accidentally electrocuting her with a Taser. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has launched an investigation into the incident.

Police say an officer was attempting to subdue a 20-year-old man on a street in Stapleford, Nottingham, who had become aggressive with an officer. The officer threatened to use his Taser, if he didn’t stand still.

However, he missed his mark and instead struck Jodie Gallagher who was standing nearby. The weapon can fire a shock of 50,000 volts.

Jodie said she was stunned by the Taser, and was taken home by her sister to be examined by a doctor. She was not injured in the attack.

West Yorkshire police have been criticised for using a Taser on gunman Raoul Moat before he killed himself last month. An investigation into that incident is also underway.
