THE TAOISEACH’S VOTE of confidence in himself is scheduled to get underway at about 5.30 this evening.
Mary Hanafin and Brian Lenihan have not said how they will vote in the secret ballot – but speculation is mounting that Lenihan is likely to give his backing to the Taoiseach.
Speaking on Morning Ireland, Micheál Martin said that he had not solicited the support of any of his colleagues in his attempted heave, but that “many deputies” had come to him with concerns about the party going into “freefall”.
Both sides are reported to believe they have victory in their sights.
