A majority of respondents in a new INTO survey said there are pupils at their denominational school who are not of the faith of the school.
A NEW REPORT by the Irish National Teacher’s Organisation (INTO) suggests that a large majority of primary school teachers believe that religious education, including preparations for sacraments, should take place outside the school.
The INTO survey received 1,049 respondents from primary school teachers – with many suggesting that primary schools should teach children about various religions.
Some said that religious education in schools fosters morality and empathy. Others highlighted the importance of teaching a variety of world religions to promote tolerance, respect and an appreciation for diverse beliefs.
