A RAINFALL WARNING is in place over many parts of the east, south-east and south-west of Ireland today.

Met Éireann has a status yellow warning in place over Munster and Leinster with a further 15 to 25 millimetres of rain expected.

Elsehwere it will be mainly dry over Ulster and Connacht with just a few scattered showers.

The warning is now in place until 7pm this evening and some flooding can be exected.

Separately, the ESB has advised that some flooding may occur as a result of its decision to increase the flow of water through the Parteen Weir hydro dam.

Due to high levels of rainfall over the last 24 hours, the flow of water through the dam has been increased to 370 cumecs (cubic metres per second).

Land and property in the vicinity of the Shannon downstream, including Springfield, Montpelier, Castleconnell, Mountshannon (Annacotty) and the University of Limerick, have been warned to expect flooding.

ESB said it will review the situation tomorrow.

Temperatures will hit as high as 11 degrees Celsius and fall as low as around 4 degrees. Tonight is expected to be cold and frosty with some fog forming in places.
