Renter-friendly interiors: Instagram accounts to follow for design tips and ideas

The tips you need to transform your space while keeping your deposit.

WELL, YOU’VE DONE it. You’re finally out of the trenches and have bagged yourself the dream rental you’ve been searching for. The only thing left to do, is decorate and hopefully banish the grey vertical blinds that came with the property!

Allianz offers homeowners, renters and landlords peace of mind with their flexible home insurance products. The space you love and spend your time in can be protected with a policy that caters for your specific needs, whether you own your home or rent it.

Making your space a home

Putting your own stamp on a rental can be a tricky endeavor, with many landlords having certain rules and restrictions in place when it comes to DIY but you don’t need to wait to own a property to make a house a home.

Whether it’s no holes in the walls, a restriction on furniture options, or a simple storage issue – renters are faced with a unique set of limitations when it comes to decor in a rental property.

Although at times a challenge, let’s not let that stop us, with a sprinkle of creativity and some peel and stick wallpaper (of course) transforming your rental property can be incredibly fulfilling and instantly make you feel at home.

We’ve done a round up below of our favourite accounts to follow on Instagram for renter-friendly decor ideas to inspire you. But remember, it’s always best to check with your landlord before getting started to keep that deposit firmly intact.

Amara – @Thepajaamahub

From painting cabinets to navigating wallpaper, Amara’s content is a veritable goldmine when it comes to renter-friendly design and is packed with easy-to-follow tips when it comes to transforming your rental property.

It’s all about damage free DIY with this account and lots of colour, the perfect combo.

Medina Grillo – @Grillodesigns

The woman behind the How I Rent series, Medina Grillo’s account is packed full of practical tips and design ideas inspired by her Birmingham rental.

If thrifted furniture and rental hacks are your thing, look no further.

Paul Kinsella – @lifeatno2

Although a proud homeowner now and not a renter, don’t let that fool you. Paul’s DIY tricks of the trade are nothing short of iconic in the Irish interior landscape and his account is entirely focused on loving the space you have, no matter the size or budget.

Come for the hacks and stick around for the adorable Yorkie and cocktail content

Kate Albrecht – @MrKate

This US-based account comes with a wealth of experience in the rental market. Interiors expert, YouTuber and now furniture designer, Kate Albrecht, of Mr.Kate built a dedicated audience with her rental transformations and easy-to-replicate design hacks.

Her use of materials is always outside the box and she takes into account all budgets when working on projects. Her furniture designs are a testament to that as she professes that affordable furniture should never be ugly, and we tend to agree.

A definite follow for interior inspiration if you love an unexpected look.

If these accounts prove anything it’s that nothing is off limits when it comes to designing your home, and that rentals can be your haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life just as much as if you owned the property.

A simple word of advice, most landlords want you to love the space you’re in. Treat it with respect and care and get their OK before kicking off your DIY journey.
