Woman dies after car collides with lorry

Gardaí are investigating after a 74-year-old woman died in a collision this afternoon.

GARDAÍ HAVE CONFIRMED that a 74-year-old woman has died in a road traffic collision in Cork.

The car in which she was travelling collided with a truck at around 1.15pm this afternoon.

The incident occurred at Quarry Cross on the Main N22 road at Crookstown and gardaí in Macroom are investigating.

The woman, a passenger in the car, was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The driver, a man in his early 70s, has been taken to the same hospital. He is in a serious condition.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

The road is currently closed for forensic collision investigations and diversions are in place.
