Elderly woman dies after being struck by car in Dublin

The driver of the car was arrested and subsequently released.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN has died after she was struck by a car in Dublin this morning.

The incident happened at about 8.15am on the Navan Road in Cabra.

The female pedestrian was taken to the Mater Hospital after the incident where she later died.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Finglas Garda Station after the incident. He has since been released.

The road remains closed in both directions and there are diversions at the Nephin Road and Kinvara Avenue junctions with the Navan Road.

These diversions remain in place and the roads will reopen at about 1.30pm this afternoon.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact gardaí.

In Derry, a man in his 40s also died after a two-car crash on the Clooney Road. A man in his 50s and a woman in her 50s were also taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
