Gardaí investigating cash-in-transit van robbery at DCU

Students at DCU FM were broadcasting live just about the scene of the robbery this afternoon. Here’s what happened.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after two men escaped with a sum of money during a robbery of a cash-in-transit van on the DCU campus this afternoon.

Students broadcasting live on DCUFM described what happened as the robbery took place close to the radio station studios at The Hub student centre on campus at around 1.45pm.

A cash-in-transit van which was attending the Hodges Figgis book store was targeted by two men.

One student who witnessed the incident described seeing “a commotion”. He told DCUFM that a security man was pushed up against the side of the van by one of the thieves who then grabbed the money from him.

At least two witnesses indicated that the two men may have been armed.

Gardaí confirmed that an incident had taken place and said they are investigating what happened.
