Kieran Cuddihy to take on Liveline role from Monday as RTÉ Radio 1 launches new schedule

Joe Duffy stepped down as the longtime host of Liveline earlier this year and was replaced by Newstalk’s Kieran Cuddihy.

KIERAN CUDDIHY WILL take up the Liveline role from Monday as RTÉ Radio 1 announced its new weekday schedule.

Joe Duffy stepped down as the longtime host of Liveline earlier this year and was replaced by Newstalk’s Cuddihy.

But that’s not the only change that will be coming to Radio 1 come Monday.

A major change-up to the weekly schedule will come into force which will also see Katie Hannon and Colm Ó Mongáin replace Sarah McInerney and Cormac Ó hEadhra as the hosts of Drivetime.

Drivetime will also move to the earlier time of 4pm.

In other changes, David McCullagh’s new show, which replaces the departing Claire Byrne, will start at the earlier time of 9am.

Claire Byrne last week signed off on her last show on RTÉ Radio 1 – she is moving to weekday mornings on Newstalk and told listeners tht it was “time to hand over the baton” after a “wonderful 15 years”.

RTÉ said that Today with David McCullagh will see the broadcaster “bring his distinctive sharp, skilled approach to breaking down the day’s top stories and news developments as they happen”.

The new David McCullagh show will see Oliver Callan’s current show move to 11am and be extended to run for two hours.

Elsewhere, Louise Duffy’s show, which is currently broadcast at 12pm, will move to the afternoon slot at 3pm, replacing Ray D’Arcy’s show which came to an end last month.

D’Arcy had said that he was “hugely” disappointed with RTÉ management and how his departure from Radio 1 had been “handled”.

RTÉ Radio 1 is also launching Inside Sport, which will air from 6pm and will be presented by Jacqui Hurley and Marie Crowe.

Morning Ireland will continue to run mid-week from 7am to 9am and RTÉ added that Arena and The John Creedon Show continue as a “core part of RTÉ Radio 1’s weekday schedule”.

A new presenter for Arena will be announced at a later date following the death of Seán Rocks.

News at One meanwhile will continue to run from 1pm-1.45pm and is presented by Rachael English.

The Late Debate, now hosted by Ó hEadhra, will also remain in its place in the schedule, and the schedule will continue to be closed out by Late Date.

Tara Campbell, Head of RTÉ Radio 1, said the new schedule “brings fresh voices and sharp conversation in a vibrant new line-up”.

She added: “There are new presenters, new programmes and revised timeslots, all while maintaining RTÉ Radio 1’s known focus on reliable journalism and first-class entertainment.”
